People in Llanbadarn Fawr have been treated to pop-up performances by Arad Goch.

Residents were able to watch performances of the Aberystwyth-based theatre company’s outdoor show, for free, as it travelled through the village. Workers on the science park in Llanbadarn were also included in the tour as the performers made their way around the village in the blistering heat,

Local myths, legends and recent stories combine for the series of ‘hidden’ or ‘pop-up’ theatre which has been organised by Arad Goch to “try to counteract some of the elements of isolation caused by Covid-19 loneliness”.

Using stories, music, songs and dance in collaboration with poet Eurig Salisbury and choreographer Anna ap Robert, actors have created pieces unique to the communities of Ceredigion.

Artistic director Jeremy Turner said: “Working under Covid guidelines has been a challenge. We haven’t been able to work in the way we usually would. Having said this we are delighted to have the chance to create work that is important to Arad Goch as it represents our local communities and its people.”

The shows have been travelling to all parts of the county, to villages and towns exploring the landscape.

Speaking before their launch, Jeremy said: “This is a great opportunity to think in different ways about how to create, perform and rediscover the basics of theatre in its most raw form - few performers, few audience members and no technology. It will be a challenge for the actors as every day and every performance will be different, with varying locations.”

The project has received funding from the Welsh Government.

The time and location of each performance is not announced so people was urged to keep an eye on Arad Goch’s social media platforms for daily hints about the locations of each performance. People can also invite the company to perform locally or at a special occasion.
