AN Aberystwyth theatre company has picked up a national award for design.

Arad Goch had three nominations in the Wales Theatre Awards - two of them for the Far Old Line festival and one for the drama Nid Fi/Not Me.

The nominations were: Best Design (Far Old Line), Best Ensemble (for the performers of the Sea King’s Feast, the climax of the Far Old Line) and Best Welsh-language Production for Children and Young People (Nid Fi/Not Me).

The winners were announced at a glittering ceremony at The Riverfront in Newport.

The Best Design award was won by Buddug James Jones and Anneliese Mowbray for their work on The Sea King’s Feast, the large seafront festival organised by Arad Goch last year.

Commenting on the awards, Arad Goch artistic director Jeremy Turner said: “With so much emphasis on the arts in Cardiff and the south east, it was great for Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch to get three nominations for these awards.

“It was especially pleasing that the members of the community in and around Aber, who last summer took part in Hen Linell Bell and The Sea King’s Feast were nominated for the Best Ensemble award.

“The way Buddug James Jones and Anneliese Mowbray transformed Aberystwyth Promenade into a colourful and vibrant theatre and festival location was stunning. I’m really pleased that their work was recognised."
