THEATR Ardudwy is set to reopen this weekend, after it was forced to close following health and safety fears.

WEA YMCA Community College Cymru, the site managers, instructed the theatre to close on Wednesday, 5 October, following concerns that the building posed a risk to visitors and staff due to its deteriorating condition.

Ben Rosen, who is a Theatr Ardudwy board member, said the decision to close them down came as a shock.

However, Theatr Ardudwy has now confirmed it is due to open to the public again on Friday, 28 October.

In a statement from the theatre, it said: “Following an intense period of discussions with WEA Cymru, the theatre’s landlords, Theatr Ardudwy is happy to announce that the intended programme of films can restart on Friday, 28 October.

“Publicity at the time of recent closure implied doubt about the theatre building’s structure.

"This was misleading – the structure is sound! Any issues that there are relate to the facade, and further exploratory work is required to establish the extent of these. In the meantime, and to ensure public confidence and safety, the facade area has been sectioned off and access to the theatre will be through the main college entrance to the courtyard.

"In order to comply with health and safety regulations in the current situation, capacity for any single film screening has to be restricted somewhat."
