UNFESTIVE burglars have broken into a Machynlleth nursery and stolen hundreds of pounds of Christmas cash which was going to be used to buy toys for the children.
Police are investigating the burglary at Machynlleth Community Children’s Project, a children’s nursery at Plas Grounds, Heol Maengwyn, which is believed to have taken place between 6pm on Monday, 7 December, and 8am on Tuesday, 8 December.
MCCP have confirmed that hundreds of pounds were stolen in the burglary, including donations made to them as part of the Christmas fund-raising activities. Damage was also done to the entrance of the office and to office furniture.
Nursery manager Karen Roberts praised staff for their support at this difficult time, adding that the cash stolen would have bought new toys for the children.
She said: “The staff have been great. It is such a shame though about the money as it was going to go towards new toys and equipment for the children.”
MCCP trustee, Crona Hodges said: “It is a shame to think that there are individuals out there who think it is acceptable to steal money from an organisation like MCCP, which works hard to provide valuable childcare services to the local community.
“Staff have continued on diligently and the premises has been made secure again.
“The MCCP Board would like to thank everyone for their continued support and especially the staff who are incredibly spirited and have continued unabated, to provide excellent care for the children. We would be incredibly grateful if the local community can continue to support us throughout this period by purchasing our Christmas raffle tickets for an incredible trolley of prizes.”
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during the night or anyone who has any information to help the investigation, is asked to contact Machynlleth Police on 101.
