Three generations of the same family will be tackling the Three Peaks Challenge next month with the aim of raising £2,500 for a vital piece of equipment at the new Aberaeron Integrated Health Centre.

Nigel Bowen, his son Sion and grandson Marc-Rhys will be attempting to first scale Ben Nevis, followed by Scafell Pike after a night-time hike and ending up by tackling Snowdon.

And the feat – planned for the weekend of 14 and 15 September - will coincide with the trio’s respective 70th, 50th and 30th birthdays.

Nigel, diagnosed as borderline diabetic last year, said that after consulting with the local surgery they had elected to raise funds for a Doppler machine to assist with diabetic care.

“This sounded good to me,” he said. “Three generations, three peaks and three 0’s.”

“It was decided unanimously that we would like to raise money for a local cause.

“Our choice was an easy one as we have a new health centre opening in Aberaeron in September which is when we shall be doing the challenge.

“This Toe Pressure Doppler can accurately assess and assist with diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease, especially in patients diagnosed with diabetes.

“Currently in Hywel Dda 7.8 per cent of adults are diagnosed with diabetes – having access to specialist equipment locally can speed up diagnosis and referral for special care.

“We would love to be able to provide the £2,500 needed to fund this equipment and are grateful for every donation we receive.”
