LAMPETER, Tregaron and Llandysul will be targeted for major regeneration funding under a Ceredigion County Council bid for Welsh Government funding.
The three towns have been identified by the authority as locations that would benefit from the latest regeneration programme which would see a joint bid between Ceredigion and Powys councils.
The new Targeted Regeneration Investment programme will provide around £7m in funding for mid Wales as a whole with the Growing Mid Wales partnership of Ceredigion and Powys looking to draw up a plan that would see small market towns the recipient of regeneration funding.
While Lampeter, Tregaron and Llandysul have been prioritised by Ceredigion council, Cardigan could also benefit from the scheme.
A report that was supported by Ceredigion Council’s Cabinet said both Aberystwyth and Cardigan have benefitted from regeneration funding in other schemes and it was considered that Lampeter, Tregaron and Llandysul were the best locations for the latest funding.
The report said: “The aim of the programme is to develop and support regionally significant regeneration investment proposals in defined regeneration areas. The geographic scope of the regeneration area can vary in line with local circumstances; for example town centres, rural market towns, seaside towns, housing estates. The area will have been chosen for targeted regeneration investment due to its socio-economic profile, the complex range of challenges facing the area and the opportunity to reverse decline with an appropriate mix of interventions over a finite period of investment."
