CONTROVERSIAL three-weekly black bag refuse collections could be introduced in Ceredigion.

Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire councils are holding a joint review into how the two authorities can work together on waste services with an initial review into how waste is collected at the kerbside.

That will see a review into a range of collection options for black bag waste, recycling and the potential introduction of a glass collection in Ceredigion.

But council Cabinet members have heard the review will include the possibility of black bag residual waste only being collected every three weeks.

While three-weekly collections have been heavily criticised in other areas, a report that went before the council’s Cabinet heard that it could lead to a reduction in black bag waste and an increase in recycling.

The report said: “Refuse collection and disposal costs can also potentially be reduced by restricting the frequency of residual waste collections.”

Another potential option is a limit on the number of black bags that can be put out for collection by each household. Two options suggest imposing a two-bag limit on households.
