A COMMUNITY organisation has been given three weeks to put forward a revised business case for taking over Llandsyul Leisure Centre.

The trustees of Llandysul Aqua Centre had hoped to be able to reach an agreement with the county council to take over the leisure centre.

But a report that went before the council’s Cabinet yesterday (Tuesday) heard that the council was being asked to provide too much money to help keep the centre running.

Councillors were advised to reject the existing offer and tell the group the council would contribute a maximum of £30,000 towards the venture.

If an acceptable proposal is not received in the three-week window, leisure services in Llandysul could be moved to the new Ysgol Bro Teifi and the leisure centre put up for sale by the authority.

A report by Huw Williams, the head of lifestyle services, said: “The board welcomed the proposals for the future operation of the centre and fully supported the opportunities that would be made available to the local community.

“Unfortunately the level of financial support that the council was being asked to provide to underpin the venture was considered to be excessive."
