OPERATORS of a “thriving” community hall near Lampeter have put out an SOS for more committee members.

The Millennium Hall in Cellan has provided a hub of the community since it was opened in 2001, but committee members say new blood is now urgently needed to share the unseen work behind the scenes.

“I’m happy to say the hall itself is thriving; we just need a few more bodies to help share the workload,” long-time secretary Chris Lambert told the Cambrian News.

“We’d like to have a handyman as well as a caretaker, and want to go back to organising trips for senior citizens and children, but currently we just don’t have the numbers.

Back in June thieves broke into the hall and stole film equipment including five speakers, a DVD player, amplifier, remote controls and the hearing loop.

Police called the crime “distressing and disappointing” for everyone involved in running the hall.

“That was undoubtedly the most disheartening aspect of what was a pretty difficult year,” said Ms Lambert.

“But that’s all behind us now and we’re hoping that 2016 will prove a fresh start.

Committee meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7pm in the Millennium Hall.

Anyone who would like to help should ring Gary on 01570 493117, Chris on 01570 422066 or Amanda on 01570 421338, or simply go along to the AGM on Thursday, 4 February, at 7.30pm.
