Editor,
Thanks to John and Terina Kidby for sharing their experience of getting a £100 parking fine at Llangrannog. I had exactly the same experience on 12 October.
The ticket machine was not working properly but I persevered until I succeeded in paying, and told others to do the same, as I had read about people being fined unfairly during the summer.
My husband suffers from MS and had recently had surgery, so a visit to Llangrannog was supposed to be a treat and a chance to relax, and I had paid for more time than necessary. But I received a letter demanding a £100 fine, with a photo of my car entering and leaving the car park.
When I phoned the company to ask them to check their machine (which supposedly records everything), I was firmly told that no car with my registration number had paid, but it was possible that I had mistyped some digit.
Following this, I miraculously found the ticket at the bottom of our recycling bin, and my car number was printed clearly and correctly on it.
As in John and Terina Kidby’s case, after appealing and waiting a fortnight for a reply, I did not receive an apology.
This is a cause for concern. I’m sure that every other person there on 12 October had received the same letter.
The company is detrimental to Llangrannog, which is a Welsh cultural area, as well as being an enchanting seaside village – people are now avoiding the village.
The company is situated in Worthing, West Sussex and they can have no comprehension of the importance of places like this to us as Welsh people.
It is time that we, the people of Ceredigion, act to bring about a change in this!
