Residents of a small Aberaeron street experienced ‘total traffic chaos’ during the town’s highly successful Cardigan Bay Seafood Festival, town councillors have been told.

Cllr Elizabeth Evans said that while the event had again proved "out of this world", she remained concerned about "inconsiderate parking on a grand scale".

“It was total chaos,” she told colleagues. “Yes, it was a great event, but as far as traffic is concerned it always seems to be Glan y Môr that takes the biggest hit.

“All pavements were completely inaccessible – some people couldn’t even get out of their gates or front doors.”

PC Helen Yelland wondered whether the event had simply outgrown the area.

Cllr Rhodri Jones said the problem was caused by car drivers and their passengers not wanting to walk any distance.

“There was a suggestion that people could park their cars in the rugby club car park and the club perhaps use their bus to ferry them back and forth,” said Cllr Roger March.

“We need to try and improve the experience for visitors and residents alike,” agreed Cllr Evans.

Thousands came to enjoy this year’s festival in perfect weather with some of Wales’ top chefs, and this year some aspiring youngsters from Coleg Ceredigion, preparing a wide variety of seafood to delight most palates.
