Buildings across west and north Wales turned blue on Thursday evening to pay tribute to carers across the country working tirelessly to tackle coronavirus.

The bandstand and town library in Aberystwyth were illuminated in blue at 8pm on Thursday as the nation paused to clap our carers.

The D&J Daniel Iron and General Merchants store on Tywyn’s High Street also lit up blue and displayed a giant mosaic.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: "We lit up our buildings last night, in support of our incredible Hywel Dda Health Board workers including nurses, doctors, GPs and carers. Also, our 3,500 staff at Ceredigion County Council are currently helping the people of Ceredigion.

"To everyone providing care in the community, care homes, looking after children, carers, answering phones, cleaning, preparing food, supporting others, training staff, collecting waste, maintaining buildings, volunteer groups, working from home or self-isolating to keep others safe – thank you, you are all amazing.

"Stay apart to play your part."

Rob, Deborah and Rebekah of RD Development and My Place Properties decorated the Tywyn shop as a thank you to the NHS.

They said: “A lot has been said about the selfless dedication of all those working in the health service but now in this health crisis we feel especially grateful. So this is our way to say thank you.”
