THE organiser of an Aberystwyth event to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday has thanked local businesses for helping to fund the event.
Town councillor Mair Benjamin has organised the event, which will be held at Aberystwyth’s Bandstand from 11am to 6pm on Saturday, 11 June, with a host of entertainment and stalls.
It will be opened by Ceredigion MP Mark Williams.
Cllr Benjamin said she decided to organise the event after Aberystwyth Town Council ruled out arranging anything.
She said: “I think it is important that we celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
“That view is shared by many people in Aberystwyth who approached me to ask what the town council was doing.
“The short answer was nothing was planned and no funding for the cost of the event was to be provided by the council. It has been paid for by local businesses and myself and I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and businesses who have wanted to take part.
“I am looking forward to a day of fun and entertainment, and I’m so glad Mark Williams has agreed to open the event and the whole of Ceredigion and holidaymakers can come and have fun in our new bandstand and promenade.”
Proceeds will be donated to MIND and Aberystwyth Food Bank.
