AN Aberystwyth woman has been left “overwhelmed” after a tractor run in memory of her late grandfather took the total she has raised for charity up to £2,500.

Nia Gore, whose grandfather Ken Hughes, a well-known farmer and agricultural contractor from Comins Coch, passed away surrounded by family at his Troedrhiwgwynau farm home in July, helped raise £1,247 for Severn Hospice with a tractor run on Sunday, 15 October.

It comes after Nia’s coffee morning at Rhydypennau Village Hall earlier this month raised £1,317 for the Help at Home Aberystwyth Volunteering charity, taking her total raised to more than £2,517.

Nia told the Cambrian News last month that the “amazing” and “compassionate” help of two charities — Help at Home Aberystwyth Volunteering (HAHAV) and Severn Hospice — allowed the fulfilment of Ken’s final wish: to die peacefully at home with dignity.

The Ken Hughes Memorial Tractor Run was attended by 47 tractors and drivers, who met at Aberystwyth Livestock Market, Lovesgrove, at 1pm.

The tractors followed a 15-mile route through Capel Dewi, Rhosgoch, Capel Bangor, Cwm Rheidol, Capel Seion, Moriah, Glanyrafon Industrial Estate, Llanbadarn Fawr, and finishing off at Troedrhiwgwynau, where Ken’s grandsons and sons still run the business he started.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Nia said: “Wow. Totally overwhelmed again with everyone’s kindness and support to this event again in memory of Dadcu.

“Thank you so, so much to all that have donated in different ways, turned up today to support, and to all my helpers.”

The run ended with tea, coffee, cakes and a raffle draw, which were kindly donated by local businesses and friends.

Nia added: “The support was amazing and everyone said they thoroughly enjoyed the tractor run route. Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb. Thank you very much to everyone.”
