Madam,

As a mother of two, we always come on holiday to Llanbedr, and have been alarmed at the danger to pedestrians in the village with vehicles coming from Barmouth flashing down round the corner at 30mph or more.

I understand that, for three weeks when roadworks were in progress, traffic lights solved the problem.

As was previously said in your columns, there is widespread worry in south Snowdonia at the dangers of gridlock at the Artro bridge in Llanbedr, on the A496, which occurs sometimes between 11am and 2pm, the only route available, with delays of three minutes or more.

It seems that for three weeks the problem went away when a 60-metre length of broadband cable was being laid in a trench, on the hill, and this was automatically controlled by traffic lights and pedestrians could pass in safety, where walking and cycling had been really dangerous.

Perhaps installing permanent traffic lights would provide a control of traffic and thus more safety for those walking.

You could have a wide single space for vehicles to pass through, and release the rest for a narrow pavement for pedestrians and cyclists, with parking for vehicle just as at present.

Yours etc,

Jenny Ratcliffe, 20 Richmond Hill, Macclesfield, Cheshire.
