TRAFFIC problems in Aberystwyth town centre have been caused as street lights are being replaced on two of the town’s busiest streets.
Penglais Hill, Llanbadarn Road and town centre streets have been hit by queues as traffic control measures were introduced to allow the replacement of street lights on North Parade and Northgate Street in the town.
Local councillor Alun Williams said while the work was causing disruption, it was necessary to upgrade street lighting.
The Welsh Government confirmed that the work is due to continue for almost another week.
A spokesperson said: “There is a highway lighting replacement scheme currently ongoing on the A487 at North Parade and Northgate Street in Aberystwyth, with stop/go traffic management during the working day between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
“The scheme commenced on 14 June and is scheduled to continue until 19 July.”
Cllr Williams said the work should ensure savings in energy costs and would not need further work for a significant period.
