AN angry Pontrhydfendigaid pensioner has hit out at Aberystwyth’s traffic wardens after he was given a parking ticket in a bay where a restriction sign has been turned the wrong way round.

Ronnie John said he had unknowingly parked in a loading bay in Baker Street as the sign displaying the regulations was facing the wrong way but, despite being parked there for only around five minutes, Mr John was shocked to find he had been issued a ticket.

Whilst talking to the warden who had issued the ticket, Mr John said he then saw the warden warn two other motorists about parking in the bay, which meant they avoided getting tickets.

Mr John, who is a blue badge holder, said: “We were five minutes and when we came back we had a ticket. The sign had been knocked backwards by a lorry apparently.

“I can’t see how you can book someone for something they’re unaware of. While I was there, two other cars came down the road and the warden warned them not to park there.”

A council spokesperson would not comment on the decision to issue a ticket, despite the sign being turned the wrong way.
