THE 15th annual Red Kite Challenge (Sialens y Barcud Coch) will be held this Saturday starting from the Woodlands Caravan Park in Devil’s Bridge, near Aberystwyth.
Established in 2003, the event is aimed at everyone from elite and club runners to joggers and walkers.
Since its inception, the main aims of the event have been to promote healthy living and to raise money for the cardiac unit at Bronglais Hospital.
However, it has subsequently become an integral part of the trail running calendar and has incorporated UK and Welsh Trail Running Championships, attracting some of the best trail and fell runners from across Wales and beyond.
But runners of any level are welcome to take part, organisers have said.
“There’s a great atmosphere; mementoes for all finishers; refreshments available along the route and at the finish; and excellent facilities on site,” the organisers added.
Adult participants can choose between the half-marathon open championship course or a less demanding 10km route. Shorter, junior races are also held for secondary school children. The routes take participants through stunning and varied scenery on forest trails, moorland tracks and through beautiful green valleys, by permission of Natural Resources Wales and local landowners.
The event is supported by Woodlands Caravan Park, Devil’s Bridge.
The junior races start at 11am; the non-competitive walk leaves at 11.30am; and the half-marathon and 10km races start together at 1pm.
