A piece of overgrown land near Aberystwyth seafront will have new trees planted later this year after being cleared of brambles and rubbish.

The area of land by Alexandra Halls at the Constitution Hill end of the town’s promenade had been left to overgrow, with rubbish collecting on the site for several years.

Aberystwyth town and county councillor Mark Strong has been calling for something to be done, and council workmen finally undertook the work last month.

Trees will now be planted on the cleared area – a boost for a town council initiative to plant more trees throughout the town.

“I have been calling for the area to be cleared for a long time,” Cllr Strong told the Cambrian News.

“It is so overgrown with brambles that when rubbish is blown into it, it gets trapped.

“This piece of land has been in need of clearing for a long time.

“I am glad that it now has been cleared, and I’m told that new trees can be planted there in the autumn.”

Aberystwyth Town Council plans to add more trees include looking at locations on Penparcau Road and alongside Matalan, while discussions are still ongoing over adding more trees to the Penparcau Avenues.
