AN EX-ARMY man from Dolgellau has taken on a New Year challenge in aid of Wales Air Ambulance, starting 2016 by raising money for the Welsh helicopter charity.

Trevor Jones has decided to take part in a Dry January challenge to start the New Year, not drinking any alcohol for a month and collecting sponsorship for Wales Air Ambulance.

The 33-year-old decided to raise money for the Welsh helicopter charity as it is close to his heart.

Trevor’s father was a dedicated supporter of Wales Air Ambulance, sadly passing away four years ago.

Donations for Wales Air Ambulance were collected at his funeral, and Trevor wishes to continue collecting donations for the charity.

Trevor served in the British Army for seven years.

Since leaving the army, he has worked at Antur Stiniog in Blaenau Ffestiniog, where he also raised money for Wales Air Ambulance.

During January, Trevor will be collecting sponsorship from family and friends for his New Year’s challenge.

“This January, I have chosen to go dry,” Trevor said. “It started at midday on 1 January.

“My dad regularly gave to Wales Air Ambulance so they are my chosen charity.”

Debra Sima, Wales Air Ambulance community co-ordinator, said: “Collecting sponsorship for a New Year’s challenge is such a great way to fund-raise for charity, and we would like to thank Trevor for his amazing support.”
