TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving Aberystwyth magistrate from Llanilar who has died, aged 57.
Peter Alasdair Loxdale, of Castle Hill, died on Friday, 28 July, after an illness.
Mr Loxdale had served as a magistrate for many years, as well as playing an important role in a range of organisations in the area, including Llanilar Football Club, and was Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the county.
Hugh Morgan, vice-chairman of Llanilar Football Club, said Mr Loxdale had been heavily involved in the local community.
He said: “I was fortunate in knowing Peter Loxdale not only as a friend, but from being involved in other capacities.
“He was a magistrate and past chairman of the bench when I worked as a court usher and I was always impressed not only by his firmness in dealing with defendants, but his fairness in reaching decisions. He was respected by all solicitors who appeared before him.
“He was president and a committee member of Llanilar FC and was always supportive of club activities.
“He freely allowed us the use of the football pitch at Castle Hill field, without which the club would struggle to exist.
“He was president of Llanilar Show and as an exhibitor I was aware of the amount of work he did behind the scenes and on show day to ensure everything went smoothly.
“He was supportive of many other organisations in the village and beyond and he will be missed by the whole community.
“I will miss his advice and input, and the committee and players of Llanilar FC and, I’m sure, the wider community of Llanilar extend their sympathy and condolences to the Loxdale family.”
