TRIBUTES have been paid to a “family man” from Nefyn man after he was found dead in a tent at a seaside resort.

On Tuesday, 10 July, 57-year-old Arthur Owen Williams went missing from his home, sparking a mass appeal across mid and north Wales for information about his whereabouts.

After being spotted on a bus in Pwllheli, Mr Williams was believed to have travelled to Ceredigion, an area where he had links to.

Tragically, after an extensive search lasting a week, the 57-year-old was found in a tent at a campsite in Aberaeron on 17 July.

There are understood to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Williams’ death.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “Sadly, 57-year-old Arthur Owen Williams who was missing from the Nefyn area has been found deceased. Thank you for your assistance in trying to trace him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”

Mr Williams was remembered by Nefyn’s Gwynedd representative Gruffydd Williams who used to go to school with the deceased.

“He was a quiet chap who kept himself to himself,” recalled Cllr Williams.

“His death was a bit of a shock to the village, especially the circumstances.

“But he was a decent character who kept himself to himself. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. A real family man – I would like to pass on my condolences to all his family and friends.”

A spokesperson for the Ceredigion coroner confirmed an inquest would be taking place for Mr Williams.

He said: “On Tuesday, 24 July 2018, the senior coroner for Ceredigion, Mr P L Brunton, opened an inquest touching the death of Arthur Owen Williams, aged 57 years, from Nefyn, who was found deceased in a tent at a campsite in Aberaeron on 17 July, 2018.

"Evidence of identification was taken, and the inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.”
