TRIBUTES have been paid to an eccentric pensioner described as “part and parcel of Dolgellau”.

Last Tuesday, Phillip ‘Fido’ Jones (pictured), 69, died from natural causes.

His friends, councillors and Dolgellau’s football club have all been quick to pay tribute to the “eccentric” resident.

Sarah Richards, who has been friends with Fido for nearly two decades, remembered him as “a good laugh”.

“Everyone knew and liked Fido, he had terrific character,” she said.

“He was always making me laugh. He only had to make a funny noise and that would be it.

“He’s going to be sorely missed. You can see the impact he had on the town by the fund-raising page set up in his honour. It’s raised over £1,550 already.

Following Fido’s passing, Dolgellau’s Town Council held a minute’s silence in his memory.

“The town of Dolgellau was deeply saddened by the loss of one the well-known and much-loved sons of the town,” said mayor Dyfrig Siencyn.
