A POPULAR character renowned as “Barmouth’s barman” sadly lost his battle with cancer last week.

Perry ‘Butch’ Kennelly died in Dolgellau hospital on 14 November at the age of 57, following a short illness.

Butch moved to Barmouth 21 years ago and spent his career serving behind the bar in numerous public houses, before spending his last years as head barman at The Royal.

Over his career, it is estimated he “served over one million pints to tens of thousands of locals and holidaymakers from all over Britain”.

Lisa Shaw, landlady at The Royal said: “The town is devastated by Butch’s passing.

“He was the heart and soul of any pub that was lucky enough to employ him.

“We have had condolences pour in from all over the world since we announced the news on The Royal’s Facebook page.

“He was so well-known and liked that tourists made a special point of stopping in to see him to say hello every time they came to Barmouth.”

Butch is survived by his children Donna, Laura, James and Robert.
