A range of tributes have been paid to a former Gwynedd councillor who recently passed away.

Eurig Wyn (pictured), from Waunfawr, near Caernarfon, took on the role as councillor for the Waunfawr ward on Gwynedd Council from 2012 to 2016.

Before his role as a councillor, Mr Wyn had represented Wales as a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004.

Cllr Edgar Wyn Owen, chairman of Gwynedd Council, said: “I was proud to follow Eurig as councillor for Waunfawr on Gwynedd Council when he decided to step down three years ago.

“Eurig was a dear friend and the whole community will certainly remember his tireless work for Waunfawr.

“As a gentleman and true Welshman, I know he was well-respected by councillors across the council and that he always wanted the best for Gwynedd and for Wales.

“As a council, we send our deepest sympathies to his family.”

Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn, Gwynedd Council leader, added: “Eurig was a charming and likeable character and an astute politician who gave a lifetime of service to Wales and the Welsh language.

“It was a privilege to serve with him on Gwynedd Council and it is with great sadness that we mark his passing.”
