THREE builders from Gwynedd will compete for a cash prize in a new TV contest on S4C.

Ffasiwn Bildar, which starts on 10 March, is presented by Dylan Garner who goes on a nationwide search to try to transform the image of Welsh construction workers, including Jac Roberts and Lleu Hill from Penygroes and Gareth Lloyd-Williams from Porthmadog.

Jac is 23 years old and works as a plasterer.

His main interest is playing football for Talysarn, and “going for a pint with the boys”.

He said he likes the idea of being a model, and thinks he’s got what it takes, because he’s never had any problems in finding a girlfriend.

Gareth is 21 and is originally from Porthmadog.

He works as a joiner and an apprentice carpenter. He likes to visit the gym, and he has previously modelled for a photoshoot for his local gym in Porthmadog.

Lleu Hill is 26. He works as a carpenter.

He’s got a tattoo of a bumblebee on both knees, and calls himself ‘the bees knees’ because of it.

Presenter Dylan, who lives in London, but is originally from Tregaron in Ceredigion, says builders have changed over the years.

“The unfortunate image builders have gained over the years, like builder’s bum and their drinking - is a bit old-fashioned nowadays.

“If you go to building sites these days you’ll see that the boys look after their bodies.

“And instead of going to the pub on Fridays after work they now go to the gym. Things have definitely changed.”

Fourteen builders will compete in various building and modelling challenges and the overall winner will receive a cash prize of £3,500.

In the first episode the builders construct and set up a catwalk, and learn to walk on it.

They’ll also get a chance to model for Dickies clothing shop and appear on the front page of Professional Builder magazine.

In the first part of the Ffasiwn Bildar programmes, the builders will face building challenges, including plastering, woodwork and plumbing.

In the second part, the contestants will turn their attention to modelling, and are set to walk down their purpose-built catwalk, appear in an advert and take part in a fashion show.

Dylan is certain some of the builders on Ffasiwn Bildar could make it in the professional modelling world.

“If you want to become a model you have to be tidy, have a good body and look after yourself. You also have to be professional and turn up on time,” said Dylan.

“We’ve found builders in Ffasiwn Bildar who have the right image and attitude.”
