Three passers-by who dragged a drowning woman from her submerged car on a flooded road near Lampeter have been commended for their efforts by police.

Arwel Morgan, Emyr Morgan and Paul Jones helped save the life of an elderly female motorist after her car veered off the road and overturned in flood water, leaving only its wheels visible.

The trio stumbled across the accident on the Lampeter to Llanybydder road at Pencarreg in January last year.

The drama began after Arwel and Emyr Morgan’s father, David, witnessed the crash and raised the alarm.

According to the commendation, Arwel immediately waded to the car and managed to haul the woman free before performing CPR on her on the embankment.

He managed to revive her and continued administering first aid until paramedics arrived. Throughout it all he was helped by his brother and father, while Mr Jones provided further first aid on arriving at the scene.

“My instinct just took over,” said Mr Morgan. “I knew I had to get in the water to see if anyone was in there. She was like a rag doll when I pulled her out of the car. I will never forget her eyes. I thought she was gone.”
