Madam,

Re: Apartments plan for Blaenau market hall (Cambrian News, 7 March). Surprise surprise, someone has an idea for what to do with the old market hall. It is not an easy building to adapt to anything except the civic-type use for which it was designed and I agree that perhaps it does not easily lend itself to apartments. However, the section to the left of it and attached to it would make splendid new town council offices. The hall itself could then be used for public meetings and big events.

I well remember it housing an excellent sculpture exhibition by a local artist.

Has anyone considered that at present the existing town hall, which is double fronted, is too big as an office and too small for public meetings of more than a few people. The main thing is that it is in a very prominent position in the centre of town where visitors arrive and congregate. It could be a financially beneficial business opportunity.

It spends most of the time empty apart from the town clerk at work there.

Yours etc, Briony Davies, Blaenau Ffestiniog.
