A WOMAN is to take part in a sponsored swim in Scotland in memory of her childhood friends from Llanon.

Sarah Davies will take part in The Great Scottish Swim on 25 August, to raise money for the Aberystwyth branch of Muscular Dystrophy UK in memory of twin brothers Ian and Alan Hughes, who died within four months of each other, and their sister Lyn who died in 2000.

All three siblings had Muscular Dystrophy. Ian died on New Year’s Eve 2017 and Alan on 8 April 2018.

Their brother, Colin, also has the condition.

Now Sarah, a midwife in Cardiff, would like to do something to honour her friends and has been training hard for the swim.

“I grew up in Llanon and I was a childhood friend of Alan and Ian, as well as their sister Lyn,” she said. “Their brother Colin, who lives in London, is still a good friend so I have decided to take on the challenge of swimming two miles in Loch Lomond to raise money for the Aberystwyth Branch of Muscular Dystrophy, in their memory. Their parents Ann and Rheon Hughes are involved in this branch.

"I decided to swim in Scotland because the brothers were very fond of it, as their maternal grandparents lived there. Their ashes will be scattered there later this year.”

Sarah will take part in the swim with friend Clare Norrie.
