TWO CRASHES last weekend have led road safety campaigners to renew their calls for new speed limits on a popular B-road.

Earlier this year, a woman died in a crash on the B4405 at Tal-y-llyn, near Tywyn.

The woman was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa which was in a collision with a Ford Focus and a Land Rover Defender, which was towing a trailer.

The fatal collision occurred just 11 days after a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the same stretch of road on 9 August.

The serious crashes caused local business owner Liz Demaine to start a petition calling for a strict 30mph limit along the road, attracting nearly 700 signatories.

Over the weekend, there were two crashes on the same stretch of road, including a car overturned in a field, which led to Liz renewing her call for action.

“Since Friday there have been two serious accidents on the bend before you reach the lake, travelling from Tywyn to Tal-y-llyn,” she said.

“I wonder how many more will happen before action is taken?
