ABERYSTWYTH tribunal service overturned 63 per cent of decisions to strip disabled people of their benefits last year, a Freedom of Information request by the Cambrian News has revealed.
The shocking figures come after the announcement in September that 17 per cent of people in Ceredigion formerly considered disabled by the Department for Work and Pensions had been told they were now “fit for work” after completing a Work Capability Assessment.
Those found fit for work must immediately find a job or start claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance, even if they want to appeal the decision.
In August, the DWP finally bowed to pressure and published data which revealed that 2,380 people found fit for work had died between December 2011 and February 2014.
