AN Aberystwyth cider house has been named the best in Wales by CAMRA experts.

Ffion Roberts, owner of Tŷ Seidr bar and bottle shop on Corporation Street in Aberystwyth, was presented with the CAMRA Wales cider pub of the year award on Saturday during the Aber Beer Fest.

“I would like to congratulate Ffion on her hard work over the years and her well-deserved title of CAMRA Wales cider pub of the year,” said CAMRA Wales Regional Director Chris Charters who presented the award.

“Her knowledge about cider and her enthusiasm to source different varieties from producers all over the UK mean that both long-standing cider fans and those who want to try this traditional drink for the first time can choose from an ever-changing and extensive range.”

CAMRA members from across Wales were involved in assessing pubs across the country for the award.

Cider quality is the most important single factor but members also consider how well cider is promoted, the role a pub plays in its local community, the atmosphere, décor and service.

“I was stunned when Tŷ Seidr was announced as the overall Welsh winner,” said owner, Ffion Roberts.

“I’m incredibly proud to be putting Aberystwyth on the map and championing the outstanding cider makers of Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us, visited us, shared a pint with us, and helped make Tŷ Seidr what it is today.”

Tŷ Seidr won the first stage in the Wales competition when it was selected as the Bae Ceredigion cider pub of the year earlier this year. It will now go forward to the competition to find the UK cider pub of the year.
