Ysgol Uwchradd ski trip

TEENAGERS have returned from a week-long ski trip in France.Ten pupils from Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn visited Le Corbier, a mountainous resort in south east France.

According to a report sent in to the Cambrian News by Year 9 pupil Mia Banks, the trip was “magical” but “over in the blink of an eye”.

The ten Alpine adventurers were all of various levels of experience and divided into three groups — beginners, intermediates and advanced. The team skied four hours a day and tackled blue runs, black runs and even undertook a floodlit ski session. There were also various après-ski events such as orienteering, snowball fights and discos.

However, it was one of the more novel attractions that really caught Mia’s imagination.

She wrote: “My favourite activity was bum-boarding, it’s a piece of plastic that you sit on, you lean back, prop your legs up and go whizzing down the slope and the only way to stop is to fall off! “It’s great fun but sometimes you get absolutely covered in snow and that can be a little uncomfortable when it’s down your back and behind your goggles!”However the awe-inspiring scenery, including a vista of Europe’s highest peak Mont Blanc, was also a particularly memorable addition to Mia’s holiday.

After five days of sightseeing and skiing, the group had to return to Meirionnydd to restart their studies.

“It was very emotional to leave that resort although we all knew that we had to go home,” Mia said.

“We spent two hours packing on our last day; no one said a thing! “It’s funny, the days felt like they went really slow but when it came to Friday it was like it had gone quicker than a blink of an eye.

“I would definitely go back there, I would be a fool not to.”
