Horse riding
AN YSGOL Uwchradd Tywyn pupil has ‘reined’ supreme at a national horse riding competition.Abi Oliver, a Year 11 pupil, finished a creditable 11th place after competing at the British Eventing Horse Trials with her steed Oby.The horse riding competition was held at Kelsall Hill, Cheshire, and involved several disciplines.Abi explained: “There were three elements to the competition: dressage, show jumping and cross country.“The first test was dressage, during which I had to show the judges balance, rhythm and suppleness, and most importantly, the obedience of the horse and its harmony with the rider.“Overall I scored 33.3 in the dressage section, which I was extremely pleased with.“I then went on to do a course of show jumping, which involved nine jumps within an optimum time.
“Oby and I flew around the show jumping course clear inside the time, without any faults.”However the biggest challenge of the day was the cross country event, a test of both agility and speed.
“It is a lot different to showjumping as the fences do not fall if they are hit, and the course is of around 20 jumps through numerous fields.“Again, Oby pulled off an amazing performance, clear cross country round without any jumping faults, just 2.8 seconds over the optimum time.“Overall we finished on a fantastic score of 36.10, which secured us 11th place out of approximately 50 riders.”
She added: “I am really pleased with how Oby performed for me, and we are now really excited to go up a level at our next competition.”
