CEREDIGION County Council has made a U-turn on plans to move recycling bins from Aberystwyth Castle grounds.

The problem of overflowing glass recycling bins near the children’s playground in the castle grounds, as reported in the Cambrian News earlier this year, has been ongoing, with the council blaming parked cars blocking access to empty them.

But after the council said in November that it would move the bins to Maes Rheidol, a spokesperson for the council has said it has decided to continue with the current arrangements, but using smaller bins so that a smaller lorry can access them to empty them more regularly.

The spokesperson said: “Further to discussion with both Aberystwyth town and Ceredigion county councillors, the arrangements for servicing the glass banks situated within the castle grounds have been reviewed. The situation will be monitored and the council would encourage everyone to make proper use of the banks, as at other similar sites, by depositing their glass in the banks as opposed to leaving it around them — this is an example of Caru Ceredigion at work with everyone playing their part in addressing issues which are of interest and benefit to all.

“At this time the size and number of the receptacles will remain the same, but the method of servicing them will change. The situation will continue to be monitored and reviewed as deemed appropriate.”
