A NEW Environmental Group in Pwllheli, RHAN, had a boost on Saturday when the ultimate litter picker, Wayne Dixon, arrived there to help.

Wayne is on a mammoth litter-picking, 7,400-mile journey around Britain with only his camping equipment and his dog for company. It took him nearly a fortnight to walk the Llyn coast from Caernarfon to Pwllheli, litter-picking on the way.

Welcoming him to Pwllheli, after he had walked 1,500 miles, was Elin Hywel, RHAN’s secretary, a member of the town council and candidate in the South ward in the forthcoming Gwynedd Council elections.

She said: “We have only just formed RHAN.

“Nearly every organisation with their finger in the communal pie in Pwllheli has come together to improve the town’s appearance. Welcoming Wayne was such a pleasure, meeting a person so committed to the environment is a boost to us all”.

Another helper was Michael Sol Owen, who is defending his seat in the North ward in the election. “I hope to join Wayne for the day on Monday to litter-pick on the coast out of Pwllheli, he said.

“I hope this will be a boost to him for the rest of his journey.

He only has 5,900 miles left!”
