Llechwedd slate mines are to host a unique gameshow that plans to push competitors to their limits.

Y Siambr is being billed as the ultimate test of the body and mind, challenging skill, fitness and bravery.

Set in Zip World’s popular attraction in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Bounce Below, the gameshow is designed to push competitors to their limits.

Starting Thursday, 7 March at 8pm on S4C, two teams of three friends or family go head to head, battling over a series of epic challenges across four levels of the chamber. The aim is to be the first team to reach the bottom of the chamber and to get hold of the power core.

However, the successful team must face the toughest challenge. In a race against time, the team must escape, cracking a code to unlock the chamber’s doors.

“It’s like a mix between Ninja Warrior and Crystal Maze,” said Aeron Pughe (pictured), who presents the new series. “Mental and physical strength is essential to beat off competitors in this game show.”

The game show pushes competitors – and even the presenter – to their limits.

“I’d rather be a live chicken than a dead hero – that’s usually my life motto,” laughs Aeron, “so when I first got a tour of the location, I was shaking with fear – but I couldn’t say anything as I had already agreed to present the show!

“I didn’t want anyone to think that I wasn’t up for it. So, I just went for it. Sometimes, when it comes to the crunch – and the cameras are rolling – you’ll soon conquer your fears.”

Competitors are forced to face their worst fears in the chamber, as we’ll see in the first episode when mother Ceri Hughes, team Y Plenydd from Y Ffôr, dangles 150-feet above ground on the caverns’ zip lines.

“Mum has a Black Belt in Karate, but she’s absolutely terrified of heights,” said Jessica Hughes, Ceri’s daughter who’s also a team member of Y Plenydd, “but she was pushed out of her comfort zone, faced her fears, and she’s grown as a person after the experience.”

Daniel Williams, Jessica’s cousin, joins her and Ceri in their fight against Yr Hen Plwyfolion from Maesteg in the first episode.
