Madam,

I would like to comment on last week’s letter from the committee of Greener Aberystwyth Group (‘Cemetery grass management balances access with biodiversity).

While I do think each family should keep their loved one’s grave neat and tidy, I think it should be up to the relevant authorities to keep all pathways clear so family can reach the resting-place in safety and not have to wade through long, maybe wet, grass to reach it.

My mother tends my grandfather’s grave on a regular basis, but I must stress how upset she was on her last visit. She has never requested access, as she didn’t think she needed to do so.

I and others think it’s an unsightly mess. This seems to me to be no more than a cost-cutting exercise and nothing to do with wildlife.

Yours etc
