AN ‘EAT Your Street’ competition in Machynlleth has been hailed as a success.

The competition, organised by Dyfi Landshare, saw businesses compete to grow the best edible plants on the high street.

The competition was part of the Edible Mach project, which has seen a variety of edible crops planted at sites around town, including the leisure centre, police station, library, Y Plas and the train station.

The Eat Your Street planter contest, running throughout the summer and judged by local councillors Michael Williams and plant expert Chloe Ward, saw Cariad coming out as winners with their aubergine and chilli plants.

Dyfi Landshare’s Katie Hastings said: “We were so happy to see businesses taking part and growing edible plants on the high street. Not only did this make our town look nicer, it also raised the viability of local food."
