Madam,

Once again the road verges on A487 between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth have become a dump for litter. I recently travelled by car from Oxford to Machynlleth and never once saw a road which is so depressing.

Presumably neither Powys nor Ceredigion councils care enough to do something about this perennial problem. Of course, the councils didn’t, selfishly, dump the rubbish but they don’t seem to want to deal with it. For most of us who live here and for those who visit this lovely area, this rubbish is unsightly and damages the environment.

It’s far too dangerous for individuals like myself to clear the verges ourselves so we must rely on those in power to organise its collection. This is a problem which shames us all.

Yours etc, Jean Hewitt, Aberhosan.
