AN Aberystwyth woman is calling a day on 25 years of fundraising which has seen her raise more than £25,000 for charity.
Vi Holden held a raffle and cake stall and raised £570 for HAHAV — Hospice at Home Aberystwyth Volunteering — last week.
Having held an average of two fundraisers a year for the past quarter century since being in remission from cancer, Vi has raised a staggering amount of money for charities including Bronglais Meurig Ward and Macmillan Cancer Support.
“I would like to thank the public and my family and friends for the kind donations over the years,” Vi told the Cambrian News this week.
“It was in March 25 years ago that I was diagnosed, and in the September I finished chemotherapy. I must have raised more than £25,000 over the years for various causes, including Bronglais Hospital’s Meurig ward, Macmillan Cancer Support and HAHAV.”
Asked what her motivation has been, Vi said: “To help give back — I was undergoing chemotherapy for six months and it is very expensive treatment.
“Hopefully my story gives hope for other people because I am one of the lucky ones. I have a little granddaughter now.
“My daughter was only nine when I went through cancer treatment.
“I would also like to personally thank my consultants at Bronglais, Mr Gardner and Dr Axford, and all the staff on Meurig and Rhiannon wards. They are excellent.”
