Madam,

I hope the young lady jogger injured near the Starling Cloud in Boulevard St Brieuc in Aberystwyth on 4 January is recovering. I know nothing of the details of this incident or of the other two previous, luckily less serious accidents, at this spot.

Visibility of the crossing seems to be excellent when driving from the government offices into the centre of town. However, when driving out of town, the visibility of pedestrians approaching the crossing from Plas Crug is obscured by the high wall built between and behind Mudiad Meithrin and the road (see picture right). I have not seen the planning permission for this building but, during its construction, I was surprised how close it was being built to the road before the wall was constructed on the Boulevard side.Should it be that all three accidents involved pedestrians coming from Plas Crug and heading for Penparcau then I suggest urgent action be taken to create a visibility splay at this site rather than wait for the introduction of a lower speed limit.I note also that the pedestrian barrier across the pathway from Plas Crug is quite short. It is quite easy to go straight across the road rather than take the diversion to the pedestrian lights.

Planning rules require visibility splays where cars exit onto a road. Do we value cars more than pedestrians?

Yours etc
