A MISCHIEVOUS character has taken up residence under Barmouth Bridge.

Walkers and cyclists over Barmouth Bridge are now being asked to pay a voluntary donation to the ‘troll’ who lives under the iconic wooden viaduct.

The toll can be paid at the ‘Troll House’, formerly the Tollhouse, and all money raised will be put towards the upkeep of the footpath and local community projects.

Organisers of the scheme, which is a collaboration between Barmouth Town Council and Gwynedd Council, hope bridge-goers will pay £1 for adults and 50p for children.

Barmouth mayor Rob Triggs was pleased with the initiative.

“We now have a voluntary contribution system at the Troll House Booth at the Barmouth end of the viaduct,” said Cllr Triggs.

“Which Troll House? Have you seen that Barmouth’s got a new resident?

“He’s got a taste for loose change but, don’t worry, the money collected will be used in the Barmouth community and other projects within Gwynedd.

“We hope you’ll say hello next time you’re passing!”
