The Samaritans in Aberystwyth are renowned for always being there to lend a listening ear to people in desperate need – but now they are seeking your help.

They are looking for a new voluntary treasurer to help them continue their vital work.

Aberystwyth Samaritans currently have 26 volunteers who support callers on the telephone, by email and SMS, and face-to-face with visitors to the branch.

The volunteers also undertake other roles to run the branch eg, training, fundraising, outreach and promotion, recruitment, IT support and managing the branch funds.

A spokesperson said: “We are seeking a new part-time volunteer treasurer to take over from our current treasurer who is standing down after many years of dedicated work.

“No experience needed, basic IT skills and basic bookkeeping knowledge will be needed. Training and support will be provided.”

And the spokesperson added: “We are working hard to promote Aberystwyth Samaritans.

“Samaritans can be contacted on 116 123, this number is free.

“We are especially keen to promote the Welsh line where we are able support Welsh speakers on 0808 164 0123, this number is also free.

“To find out more about volunteering with Samaritans, there will be information sessions at the branch, 5 Trinity Road, Aberystwyth, on Friday, 29 March, at 7pm or Saturday, 30 March, at 10am. Sessions last for around an hour and a half.”
