VOLUNTEERS have helped Ceredigion County Council’s public rights of way team by constructing a footbridge on a circular walk from Talgarreg.
Six volunteers constructed the six-metre long footbridge out of timber.
The improved footbridge, replacing the previous one which had become rotten, has made crossing one of the streams on route easier.
This bridge was installed in one day by the volunteers, assisted by the council’s countryside ranger, Osian Jones. The materials for its construction were funded by money raised by members of the Cardigan and District Ramblers Group, as part of their drive to promote walking in the area.
Reflecting on the project, Mr Jones said: “Our volunteers enable us to tackle jobs that would be difficult, or impossible, for us to do alone. When they also raise the funds to purchase the necessary materials, we can really move forward. As ever, we are very grateful for their input.”
The circular walk is just under four miles and graded as ‘A’, meaning it’s considered an easy route. It also benefits from only having short sections on minor roads.
This walk, along with many other promoted routes, feature in the Paths for People booklet, which is available to view and download on the council’s Walks and Rides webpage.
Also available to download and print out are routes for a number of various walks, including coast and countryside walks; community routes; Spirit of the Miners; long-distance cycle routes; bridleway routes; and Ceredigion on Horseback.
Cllr Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet member with responsibility for economic and community development, said: “This footbridge is a fine example of the results that can be achieved through effective partnership working."
