AS part of Volunteers Week from 1-7 June, a recent new scheme is looking for more volunteers to adopt their local path.

Last August, Ceredigion County Council launched its Adopt a Path Scheme, aimed to increase public knowledge, use and enjoyment of the path network throughout the county.

As part of Volunteers Week this year, the council is celebrating the wonderful work of both its current Adopt a Path volunteers, and those who take part in regular work parties alongside the area Rangers.

The Adopt a Path Scheme currently has over 50 volunteers helping to maintain the path network countywide.

There are 2,500km of public paths covering the county, and over the past year the Adopt a Path volunteers gave nearly 250 hours of their time to help keep them accessible and maintained for the public to enjoy.

Rita Slade from the north volunteering group said: “As a group we have recently been doing maintenance work in Cwmsymlog to rehang a field gate onto a bridleway that was hanging off. The post had become rotten and it was tricky for horse riders to open, so we replaced it, and whilst we were there we also did some work to replace a stile with a self-closing pedestrian gate.”
