TRAIN-LOVING volunteers are being sought to help the Talyllyn Railway on Saturday.
Volunteers can meet with people involved in various aspects of the railway to see the sort of work they do and there will some opportunities to get your hands dirty and try your hand at some of the tasks.
Ian Drummond, the chairman of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society, said: “It may surprise people that a good number of our volunteers are not railway enthusiasts, but just people who want to get involved in something that benefits the wider community.
“Many of the jobs which need to be done do not involve any knowledge of railways or their operation, such as painting, gardening, carpentry or working in our shops and cafes.
“Of course if people do want to get involved in more railway-orientated work then we offer extensive training to help people acquire the skills they need.
“Over the years we have found that some of our volunteers have benefitted in their careers through the experience they have gained from working on the railway.
“For others it can be about being part of a community or building self-esteem, or simply contributing to something worthwhile.”
