SNOWDONIA National Park is in the running to be named ‘Wales’ Best Place’.

With just a few days left to vote, the park authority is calling on everyone to vote for Snowdonia.

In a competition to be crowned Wales’ Best Place, run by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Cymru, voters are asked to celebrate some of our most attractive and inspiring places, with Snowdonia has been named as one of the ten finalists.

Over the centuries, the 823 square miles from Abergwyngregyn in the north to Aberdyfi in the south, from Harlech in the west to Bala in the east, Snowdonia has provided a myriad of opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy the scenery of rugged mountains, long sandy beaches and crystal lakes.

Snowdonia is home to 26,000 residents and the area attracts thousands and thousands of visitors every year because of its outstanding beauty.

In encouraging the public to vote for Snowdonia, the authority’s director of planning and land management, Jonathan Cawley, said: “It’s no surprise to me that Snowdonia has reached the top 10.

“The landscape is stunning, there is a wealth of exceptional cultural heritage and important biodiversity here and the Welsh language is an integral part of the life of our communities.

“So it is a privilege to work as a planner here - and it’s a great responsibility to protect the area for future generations.

“I hope that this vote will come to the same conclusion as me, and that Snowdonia is the best place in Wales!”

Snowdonia will be battling it out with nine other entrancing landscapes including Aberaeron, Ceredigion; The Hayes, Cardiff and the Gower peninsula.

Peter Lloyd, chair of RTPI Cymru said: “The competition has reminded us of the passion we have for places we love.

“The finalists, places clearly loved by the public, have been protected, carefully planned or improved by the planning system.

“I encourage everyone to get behind their favourite place to ensure it wins!”

Voting is open until Friday 30 September.
