People in Abergynolwyn are appealing for your vote as they bid to get a grant to save the village playground.

Concerns have been raised over the future of the park as the rubber flooring around the apparatus is wearing thin.

Llanfihangel y Pennant Community Council, which is responsible for the park, has put it forward for a national competition to win a £5,000 grant.

The Calor Rural Community Fund is a UK-wide vote competition where rural communities bid for a grant worth between £1,000 and £5,000.

Llanfihangel y Pennant Council said: “The flooring is wearing out at Abergynolwyn Park, putting the playground at risk.

“We could win £5,000 for a new floor – but only if we have enough votes.

“Protect our future by asking your families and friends to vote for our project.

“Voting closes on 17 June – please use all 10 votes for Abergynolwyn.”

Community council clerk, Eileen Jones added: “We need people to register and vote for the park in order to replace the rubber floor.

“The park is safe but previous health and safety inspections have advised us that it will need replacing soon.”

The Calor Rural Community Fund is officially open for voting - which means it’s time for rural communities across the UK to support their local projects.

With 21 grants totalling up to £70,000 up for grabs, this year’s Fund includes applications from 322 different projects from across the UK.

Among them are village halls, sailing clubs and sustainability campaigns, each one different from the other, yet all with the same aim – to improve and support their local community.

Joining Calor in the judging panel are organisations including Business in the Community, mental health charity Mind, Crowdfunder, Plunkett and Rural England, who will help decide on the winners, announced on 18 July 2019.
