I read the article ‘Ceredigion chosen for superfast web project’ with justified suspicion. Our friends in Aberystwyth have long enjoyed fast fibre broadband but here in Goginan we have been waiting in vain for anything like a decent connection speed.
I was rather surprised, therefore, to receive this response when I visited the quoted website and entered my Goginan post code: “Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this particular fund because your postcode is either not in Cornwall, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Cumbria or Northumberland, or not classified as rural, or broadband of at least 100Mbps is already available or planned in your area.”
Of course none of that is true. But if the get-out is the word “planned” this is meaningless without a given timescale since we have already waited more than 10 years. Also it is precisely rural communities which are left out of such schemes because of the inconvenience of installing the connection.
